Last week Curtis Contracting started and completed the girder erection for the new pedestrian bridge and approach ramps as part of the Hydraulic Road / US 29 Improvements Design-Build project. Wallace Montgomery served as lead designer on the project, including the pedestrian structure which consists of a two-span prestressed concrete girder superstructure over US 29, as well as prestressed concrete girder approach ramps along either side of US 29. The overpass and approach structures are supported by concrete cap and column piers on drilled shaft foundations. The bridge spans nine lanes of traffic and will provide safe pedestrian access between the Seminole Square Shopping Center and the Shops at Stonefield.
The team is on track for a successful delivery, thanks to our amazing partners Curtis Contracting, Virginia Department of Transportation, City of Charlottesville, Bowman Transportation Group, and Clark Nexsen.
