This project delivered a complete replacement of a 90+ year-old bridge serving as the sole access for local residents. The new structure features a single-span, prestressed concrete slab beam bridge with a reinforced concrete overlay, providing increased roadway width, significant safety improvements, and sustainability. Accelerated Bridge Construction and maintenance of traffic techniques, including prefabricated elements and a temporary bypass road with traffic signals, cut construction time from 20 months to just 8 months, minimizing community disruption. Innovative drilled shaft foundations with rock sockets enhance scour resilience, while context-sensitive design and aesthetic concrete parapets blend the bridge into its natural surroundings. The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget, ensuring safe, reliable access and decades of low-maintenance service for Howard County.
